This week's superstars

This week it was so difficult to choose who to give star award certificates to so I gave out 2 - and it was still tricky to decide!

Peni has been working so hard and has settled into our class so well. He deserves an award for all his hard work in all our activities and learning our routines, rules and always being keen to take part in group activities.

Wilson has made such an effort with his maths and writing this week that he had to have one too.  Wilson even asked for an extra maths task instead of being first to pack away for morning tea!

Lots of other people made a great effort too - but we can't all always get one!

Well done for such a great week room 1!

Here are some pictures and jokes since tomorrow is April Fools Day.
Where does a boat go when it's poorly?
(To the doc!)

what has 4 legs and 4 eyes? (4 pirates!!)

What do you call a fish with no eyes?(Fsh)
What is a cat's favourite colour?(Purr-ple!)

I told my sister I made a car from spaghetti. She didn't believe me, until I drove pasta.

What fruit teases you a lot?
 (A Ba na..na..na..na..na!)
cooking joke - :"I know it's cheesy but I feel grate"

a special request

We had a special request for the signs for the months of the year. We sing about the months each morning so we took a video of the signing - it's very tricky as each one has a few signs!

Days of the week

We are learning the day of the week in sign language as we sing our days of the week song in the morning. We are getting really good at it!

We are great at swimming

This term we have been swimming most Fridays. We are doing so well! Some of us are learning to starfish float and put our face into the water, some of us are learning to do fast little kicks and some of us are learning to do big arm circles.
Look how good we are. We love it!

Mr Tadpole is no longer a tadpole!

Since so many people have been asking after Mr Tadpole (or Mr Frog) since he left our classroom last week, here he is in all his frogtastic greatness!

He eats flies instead of spinach.
He breathes air out of the water.
He still needs water to swim in and drink.
He needs rocks for shelter to keep him safe.

He has now gone to live in a special creek that ha flies, rocks, water and air. He will be happy there.

We Are Protecting Our Waterways!

Today we went on a trip to Point England Reserve to make sure that the waterway was being kept clean and tidy.  We took gloves to protect our hands and plastic bags to put any rubbish we found in.  We found a lot of litter! We found a whole boxful of glass bottles scattered about, a stinky sock and 2 nappies as well as cans and lots of different wrappers. At the end of our trip we had 4 bags and a box filled with rubbish! It looked much better and we are sure the fish and water animals will feel much better now as the litter wont get washed down into the water.

After we finished working hard cleaning the beach, we had a picnic lunch nearby. We made sure to put all our rubbish in the bin.

Pizza is yummy!

In cooking we have been making pizza with toast! We used the toaster, spread on the pizza sauce,

grated and sprinkled on the cheese

We grilled it. We all thought it was delicious!

all sorts of change

Today Wilson's Mum brought in some caterpillars and some in their chrysalis. We saw two beautiful butterflies emerge from their chrysalis and one big fat caterpillar building his house around himself - just like in 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar'! It was amazing to see.  Big thanks to Wilson and his Mum.

We talked about how the butterflies now need different food and have a different place to live/shelter.

Our frog was back in class today too. he is a Golden Bell Frog and is getting big. Everyone was very excited to see him back and we put him in a jar and talked about whether or not he had everything he needed to live - he had air but the lid was on so we decided he could not live there.  There was no food in the jar and we decided that was important to have too. There was not water for the frog to swim in or drink either so he didn't have water to drink.  Last of all we looked at his house; he usually likes to hide and have his rocks and water to feel safe, he didn't look very happy in the jar without a safe place to live so we put him back in his big tank with flies to eat, water to swim in, air holes so he can breathe and rocks to shelter beside.

Happy birthday India Rose

Today India Rose turned 12 years old! Her mum brought in a delicious cake for India to share with us. We all sang happy birthday and India blew out her candles. Thank you India for letting us celebrate your birthday with you today.

Our first week with Peni

Peni has had a great start to his first week. We have made pancakes for pancake day, run races in fitness, had fun reading the very hungry caterpillar, talked about why clean water is important, sorted healthy and treat foods and lots more fun activities. Peni is getting pretty good at signing our national anthem and this afternoon we got to go to the library to read!
